I'm already spending more time on DV than I used to since I'd like to reach gold tier, but at current rate its likely that I'll hit silver tier if I'm lucky. TBH if things become sure that I'll end up in Silver, I don't think I'll keep participating because the prize gap (personally) is pretty big between gold and silver, and its just not worth the struggle.... ;w; Just ranting, I guess, hope future updates can keep encouraging people to enjoy DV...
The leaderboards are always there for only the most dedicated of folks. If that's not you, don't stress. Just try your best.
I'm going to wait until all of the tasks are out before really judging anything, though. It's only day 3. We shall see!
Maybe if the end quest or overtime would award points, it would be good to mention that to assuage some peoples' fears?
Yes, not everyone should reach the highest tier and there should be a fair amount of dedication needed to get there. If people have real-life obligations, sometimes there is a 'sacrifice' involved! In most of the virtual pet sites I've been on, players who have full-time jobs and other real-life obligations generally don't 'reach the highest tier' or even a high tier at all in time-consuming events like these, which makes sense - that's just life. However, it feels as though many of the players who don't have real-life obligations may not reach the highest tier despite continuously checking in for around 12-15 hours/day.
Using some of Krycelli's calculations in a previous post, if the next two tasks award 80/90 points each (instead of the current highest at 70) with similar cooldowns to Bearnard/Buli, the maximum number of points one could reach would be 42.9k, which means that to get 30k, someone would need to check-in for roughly 70% of the event. That would mean not missing a single task while you're awake and getting a bit under 8 hours of sleep/day throughout the duration of the event. I feel as though that would be a bit ridiculous to expect from players who want to reach the highest tier, given the immense amount of dedication that it already takes to continuously complete tasks for 12-15 hours a day. Hopefully, this does not become the case and there will be more points or shorter timers in the future.
"Please, please, think of people's well-being! This game has appealed to a lot of marginalized people who already are likely to have higher stress levels than average. I was really hoping that the game mechanics would also reflect respect, not just for diverse identities, but also for the real people who hold these identities. So far this hasn't been my experience of the game :( "
i understand that the elite tier should be more challenging to achieve. but challenging SHOULDNT mean giving up basic human health and feeling full of stress for 14 days.
i dont even care that much about dv and im sitting here wondering if i should try to sleep less so i can reach the elite. that shouldnt even be a question im asking myself. and if you think it should, that is seriously messed up. how could you expect your userbase to abandon their lives to play their game? how do you expect ppl to keep giving you money at this rate lol? do you care about us AT ALL?
im currently at 2470 and ive been on dv during ALL OF MY WAKING MOMENTS. there is no way i will reach elite tier. i cant believe this. i really want to because otherwise what is the point of working hard? but 30k? how is that even possible to obtain while still getting sleep?
Krycelli (#3919) calculated that you would get 40k points from doing everything 24 hours a day. but thats impossible? so you are telling me if i spend TWELVE HOURS OF MY LIFE ON YOUR SITE EVERY DAY FOR 14 DAYS I STILL DONT GET ALL THE ITEMS??? who decided this was balanced lol i literally dont understand. did yall do the math at all ? this is extremely unreasonable.
I also want to bring up Dread (#772) 's point
"2) Not knowing- there's so much back and forth of don't worry the next tasks will be higher but....we don't know what they will be (though the newest one does show a potential pattern). Having a goal but not knowing what opportunities you will have in order to reach that point goal is really frustrating. "
this is a problem across the site on many many issues. i dont understand why staff cant communicate effectively with their userbase. just tell us what is going on lol!! im sorry if your feelings are hurt because you have all worked so hard on this site. we do appreciate your hard work, and i dont think ANYONE wants staff to feel bad. we just want to be heard? we just want to have a conversation? a big reason people are so emotional about stuff is because when we dont hear about something.. how can we know?? its very frustrating.
i want this site to do well, i have made a lot of lovely friends and the art style is very impressive. its just hard when it feels like staff doesnt care about its users.
i feel it would be different if there were just a few timed tasks but the rest had an amount of times you could turn in limit, but timeless so ppl with strict schedules could rack up points in the time they do get to the pc. this event just feels like its pushing away MOST of the userbase, and catering to a small percent. very strange :/
Thankfully Idc as much as others about completing the event, so I just play like normal. But it is sad there is no chance for us busier players. Im just not going to get on every 20min, its not how I do internet.
“You also should not have a staff member either obviously botting for the leaderboards, or sacrificing health just for the sake of it. This is an incredibly bad impression and it doesn't help the fact that there are hundreds of tickets left still waiting to be answered while the only thing the admin has on their mind is to be #1 on the leaderboard. This is childish.”
WORD
It’s *incredibly* inappropriate and unprofessional, even if it’s totally on the up and up (and I’ll admit, 2.5 days in I started wondering about bots too. ICK.) Since there’s no competitive element this time, there’s no reason to even HAVE a leaderboard, so why is it even there? So admins can show off?
If this were a mobile game the event would send our phones a notification when the timers were up. We don't have that, so people are setting their own timers and trying to rush back to the site in mass numbers when those timers come up. Which honestly is leading to lag so bad it's making quests hard to do again.
As others have said, if this were a mobile game we'd have a pay to win option by now given how impossible seeming the 30k tier is. I shouldn't have to sacrifice sleep and my health to get the epic tier, being able to spend ~12 hours a day on site should do that because that's already more than the average and this whole event completely screws over people who have a life and obligations outside of the internet.
The travel boon feels like you're listening to us at least a little, but it's not enough. Many people who were here for the beta are echoing that this is relatively the same event and they hated it, it's what made them quit the beta, ect and many more are saying that this event is what's going to make them quit now. Staff needs to be more open and clear with us about what is happening and the fact that they're hearing our concerns and are working to address them.
Also agree it's extremely unprofessional for a staffer to be on the leaderboard. Even if the tickets aren't his/aren't anything he can do anything about, even if he's working in between the time he's clicking the timers (like I am usually), it still sets a bad precedent especially because he's either cheating via some kind of bot or showing that he is willing to sacrifice his health and wellness to remain at the top of the leaderboard and both are bad examples to set for the remainder of the community.
Oh, and for those saying this isn't as bad as it could be; that's not helpful and it is 100% disrespectful to the people stressing about this event. This isn't "whose event is worse?" this is "we the users don't like this event and have ideas on how it could be changed to make it better and more accessible to everyone" and we feel like we aren't being heard. Doubly so since apparently people gave vastly the same feedback during the beta event and like the turnip machine the staff decided not to address the mechanical aspect and went ahead with it. Now they're getting slammed by more people and everything they've built is in danger, which is a bad place to be in and they can either change or risk losing everything.
I’m also confused as to why regular NPC tasks are tied to this event? In the June event, there’s a whole storyline that has nothing to do with the main quest, so why not add that here? At least you could’ve made it so that if you finished the repeatable storyline, you could’ve made it 250-500 points each and had a limit on THAT or something. They don’t even have new blurbs or anything, like Bearnard complaining that the Embers are making it too hot to grow anything, or “hey, do you have a hat, because mine has burn holes in it”. No one is talking about how low effort it feels, and yeah we get it: “oh, we’re just a new site and we’re a small team, lol. You’re just a bunch of complainers, we can get away with low effort, teehee~ :P “ I was there for FurVilla’s opening, and they we ALWAYS on top of balancing, staff hires and posting updates CONSTANTLY. It’s making you guys look really unprofessional and that you want to ignore the fact that you’re already on thin ice is what’s going to sink this ship.
This is a great event, especially for the first real event on site! Its interactive, and makes you think about the site. Gives you a reason to go around the town to do dailies. People need to remember the site is still very new and the staff are listening but be patient with they make improvements. Its not easy to code and readjust a website on the fly.
