Maybe make it so you can repeat tasks a certain number of times per day before the cooldown timer starts happening. It would mean people didn't have to be on every 2 hours for most of the day just to have a chance at getting the top prizes, or even mid-range ones.

People care about an admin not just being in the top 10 but consistently being #1 because it sets a bad precedent. No one is saying he shouldn't be able to partake, of course, but when there are unanswered tickets he could be helping with it just looks bad. Also the fact that he was clearly either cheating by using a bot or not sleeping to get there, which again just sets a bad example.

Instead of removing the leaderboard, which is not what people were complaining about mostly, they could have made it so that he didn't show up in the ranking or he could have a player account so people wouldn't know it was him.

I agree it seems like they're treating us like children - they see we're complaining about something so rather than implement an actual fix that would take *effort* they take the easy way out and hope that will appease us and it's not a great look.

I don't think it's kindergarten level to have questions around who these events are tailored to. If the expected level of participation for top tier is botting/no sleep, and if that is what staff is expecting by their own level of engagement or ability, then casual play is potentially more stressful than not taking part at all (and hiding the leaderboard isn't going to change that, just remove transparency). And that is certainly a determination people will need to make for themselves, but bringing it up in so many words is useful to that end.

In order to make 30,000 points by the end of this, a person will have to earn at least 2,200 points per day. Right now, that's not possible. At all. How's *that* going to be addressed?

I don't think it matters, I've seen God around on a site or two, seems like a pretty cool thing to see 'em at spot #1 to me. :) I cracked the top 2000, sad that I won't be able to see my progress anymore soon. ;D

I personally do not think that the score table is the problem, or that one specific staff member being up top is an issue (after all, these kinds of things have to be tested and when there is an issue it should be addressed asap which can be done easier through a mod account)

I believe it's the feeling there is a lack of transparency. Several users have expressed concerns about overall point gain because they want the top tier rewards. Going by the calculations present on the forums right now the future tasks must add hundreds of points per day to be hit the top tier and there is a general fear that won't be the case.

Just a little bit of transparency would be appreciated.

A scoreboard for your friends would be really fun!
  • Villager Dilla (#35971) 23 Aug 2020, 4:36 pm
I’ve completed 97 tasks and am still considered just a participant. Yeah that’s encouraging and exactly what I want from an event. Super glad I clicked on THAT tab. Wow.
  • Villager Dilla (#35971) 23 Aug 2020, 4:37 pm
Not only just a participant actually - barely even badly over halfway to being considered otherwise.

I am on here often. Way too often. I cannot see how I am going to make top tier. I like a challenge. This doesn't seem doable. I am setting my phone alarm etc. I hope some big point earners come up soon! :(

as someone who took part in the beta event of this type and got into the top tier - please adjust the numbers. it's disappointing to see the event is still struggling the way it is even after beta. while you're taking small steps to improve what was already an exhausting event, i think you're skipping over the bigger picture, which is the absolute discrepancy between the tiers and daily point gain. i genuinely don't see how elite tier is going to be possible unless the next unlocked tasks will bring it major points per day, and even then it's exhausting trying to keep up.

i'm dedicated to this site (i think the spring bloom item i have is enough to show that) but when people are losing sleep, combating a mod for first place (though i personally have no problems with mods participating...idk how good of a look it is to have one of your mods be highest on the leader board. no matter how genuine their point gain is, people are going to think it's unfair or that they're cheating due to their mod status), and giving up this early into a multiple week event...i think you need to change the progress of point gain as a whole. dedication to get to elite tier should be there, of course, but when it seems genuinely impossible and people are struggling both mentally and physically to try and achieve that impossible goal...just something to think about.

I'm confused as to why the takeaway from all the feedback and complaints was to remove the scoreboard... I don't want to sound ungrateful - I really appreciated the town hop update because it directly addressed our concerns and fixed the issue of being locked into Louise Hill for the duration of the event - but this one seems kind of... irrelevant?

Most comments are focused on the amount of time required to reach the top tier potentially being unreasonable (and with the mystery of how many points each new task will give/their timers, nobody can really be sure). The complaints that did involve the scoreboard were targeted towards staff participation being inappropriate and staff leading the board via no sleep/promoting unhealthy habits.

Like I've said in a previous comment, I personally don't mind staff participation or an admin leading the board - I just found it strange because of all the work that needs to be done on the site. Obviously, they've already put a lot of time and effort into this event so I'm not trying to pressure anyone into letting that go. However, removing the scoreboard doesn't change the fact that staff are participating/not sleeping over this event for those who do have an issue with that...

That being said, it seems that some people enjoy the scoreboard while others could do without it - maybe it would be better to put it on a separate page that's linked to from the Summer Festivities page? That way, users could click on the link to find out their ranking if they're interested and if they aren't, it won't be in their face all the time.

I'm trying to understand how an admin can get points if he's never shown as online when i click on "users online" button. I really hope it is a bug and not a type of cheat, but as much as I try thinking that way, I just can't! @_@

"I believe it's the feeling there is a lack of transparency... Just a little bit of transparency would be appreciated. "

this, so much this, a thousand times THIS.

ive been staff of avi forum sites before. i have no issues with staff participating in events. in fact it hurt my feelings when people were upset for my participation. however, if staff are ignoring their duties in order to participate as a user, thats a no from me. i would never have done that cause thats not right. staff deserves to enjoy the site as users, but they have a duty first.

people were discouraged by an admin on the leaderboards. but people are so much more discouraged by the sheer number of points required for elite tier, and the fact that we have no clue how many points future tasks will bring. people are discouraged because we arent told things. people are discouraged because of the timers on these tasks, make it stressful to get sleep and be healthy, thinking all their work may be for nothing if they dont reach elite.

how can it be that people who spend their entire waking moments on dv for this event cannot reach elite tier? why would you make it so people actually have to give up sleep to achieve this? i dont understand. do you want us to have fun ? lol

the leaderboard wasnt really the big issue, im glad it might solve a few things but not really the big picture. i just dont get it. im confused. we are all confused. please communicate.

I feel like staff missed the point of what about the event was frustrating. I can see not making elite tier easy, but even getting to first two is a big load of time on here it seems so far? I'm waiting to see what happens, but it seems like the grind is very up there.
