Hey there, looks like you just wandered in. Why not have a look around and stay for a while, maybe even start your own adventure, if you're into that.

July Update!

Hello world-hoppers! Welcome to July, our official first of a month on Dappervolk after launching. We'd like to thank everyone for a lovely launch week! It's been amazing to see everyone's response to our long months of hard work. We hope to continuously improve on the game and we're so excited to share more of it with you!

Without further ado, our first order of business is the unveiling of our very first Monthly Shop. July's theme is Mothlike!

These items were procured from a distant land full of moonlight, dusty books, and hidden knowledge.

What are Monthly Shops?
  • Every month, Pai, Oran, and Agnes from Peddler's Port will have different sets of 6 items in their shops that will retire at the end of the month.
  • These items are obtained from far away lands and follow the theme of the land they visited each month.
  • The items will retire at the end of each month to be replaced by new stock.
  • All retired items from Monthly Shops will eventually be able to be obtained rarely from Grandma Agnes later on.

How can I get to Peddler's Port?
Peddler's Port is a seaside location that you can unlock by going through the main storyline in Louise Hill. Once unlocked, you can visit Peddler's Port any time without using up a town hop!

Pai's Machine of Wonders
Pai will host these 6 items in their shop this month for 180 turnips per spin. If you spin 10 times, you will be able to choose a free item of your choice! Free spins will expire after about 3 months.

Oran's Emporium
Oran's shop will be stocked with these 6 items for 6000 potatoes per spin!

agnesmoth.png
Agnes' Perpetual Shop
Agne's now hosts a Mothlike Silver Chest that contains a full set of items from Pai's shop at a higher total turnip cost.

These monthly shops will run until July 31st, after which they will be refurbished to house August's monthly items!

charitypet.png

The Charity Pet Sale will be concluding on July 4th, we will be donating all remaining proceeds by the 5th and sending out redemption code emails then!

launchbundles.png

The Launch Support Bundles will be retiring permanently on July 5th, after which they will no longer be available!
All remaining redemption codes will be sent out after the 5th.

Upcoming Events
We have a big summer event planned to happen some time in August.
For the time being, we will likely be hosting another Adventuring Riddle Contest at some point this month!

That's all for now, we'll be updating everyone through future news and status posts!
Thank you so much for playing and supporting Dappervolk.

you...do realize that all the games you just listed are known for being predatory mobile games right? like, the mortal combat one has a 18+ rating on it so that doesn't apply to underage gambling anyway because young users aren't supposed to be on the game. and Clash of clans has (at least 2) lawsuits against it.

as for the final fantasy games... Square Enix is loosing money on those because the mobile games are pay to win and people are going for free alternatives. Like they're shutting down the servers for Kou-Kyou-Sei Million Arthur.

which is kinda of people's points with Dappervolk and why it's bad? Either Dappervolk is going to get sued for breaking gambling laws (like fortnite did last year) since both of them are aimed at children, or how pay to win this site is becoming is going to drive off enough of the user base that they're going to have a hard time keeping the game afloat like with the Square Enix/ Final fantasy mobile games.

ScarletRain (#29399) the ESRB did just recently make a special label for games with lootboxes, gacha, and other similar RNG mechanics. However they chose to use a very ambiguous phrasing for it, using the excuse that parents won't understand what lootboxes and such are, and so the ESRB rating is not actually that helpful because it isn't very descriptive or straightforward, especially when the videogame industry right now is in such a state that they have a heavy influence on the ESRB and regulation of what is, by definition, gambling. Right now because of the game industry, gambling features are at an all time high and companies will pay big money to avoid having any regulative legislation pass. It's unfortunately not as simple as smacking a vague label that says "In-Game Purchases (Includes Random Items)"

bro i was lovingly cleaning and patching up my friend's wounds and you ruined it. i was scolding them for being an idiot in and exasperated but fond tone of voice while i tenderly bandaged their knuckles and we both tried unsuccessfully to avoid looking into each other's eyes until the tension between us became unbearable when you entered the room without knocking, with gambling mechanics and killed the mood. what the hell, man

Ferinsy (#30206) & others asking for the laws/why other games are not banned.

I'm a nerd & play Naruto Blazing, which is a Bandai/NAMCO game of course & remembered that for Begium specifically the purchase of in-game currency with real money was banned & removed some years ago, exactly because it falls under the gambling laws there.
It was the first country afaik, but I think it didn't stay the only one.
It's exactly the same as here btw - gacha for one character or either 10 at a time.

I could dig up a screenshot from the ingame announcement:

Honestly this is going to be long and here it is:

Dappervolk is a great site so far you are not in any way FORCED to participate in the gacha to get these items you can buy the box set from her, I tried the gacha because I thought it was fun and I didnt want all the items I mostly got what I wanted PLUS Agnes will eventually sell those items sometimes if you REEEALLY are that against it, it isn't forced and it isn't the only way to get it.

Most of the laws surrounding the gambling aspect as well is MOSTLY aimed at games where you gain a COMPETITIVE advantage, which E.A. started the ball rolling due to you only being able to obtain those items through lootboxes and some games were deeeeeefinitely messing around with how often or not often those items would appear.

I could see going after this site if the gacha was the ONLY single way to obtain those items but seeing as it isn't there isn't much if at all to complain about. The game needs to keep afloat and some people love gachas, gacha games have always been popping up here and there and they are very popular. You can still obtain the items from Agnes in a box set if you don't agree with the gacha then go that route. Its 1800 turnips for the set or 1800 turnips for a full 10 spin to get the items so it balances out? I honestly am really sad seeing people attacking dappervolk when there are pet sites that are definitely far worse in the money department. They have a very active discord where people help one another.

Sorry if this is long oof and Im sure I may get a response or two but I don't see an issue I love this site I love how unique it is, I love the RP quest aspect and it saddens me that people are going after the gacha aspect for real money items that they dont have to participate in if they don't want to they can still buy the full set normally. I love what dappervolk did and Ive abandoned my other pet sites for this one.

Wow I mean there are sooooooo many sites with things like this, and yet they dont gove other options. Yet no one complains there.

In my opinion you dont have to take part if you are the type to dislike it. I find them fun from time to time. And all of the shops besides a few are gacha. They just use potatoes instead. I guess I just dont see it nearly as bad as a lot of things that are true gambling.

If you think about it, gacha and capsule machines are made for kids. Parents give a kid a quarter to play. I used to as a child. But you just dont let kids have free reign on it.

Idk, it just feels like people are overreacting and calling it something its not. Either way I dont spend real dollars on games these days so it wont be a prob for me. I will just buy in trades.

when will my redemption codes return from the war?
  • Villager Cruellinnet (#19209) 6 Jul 2020, 8:02 am
Canine (#27011) I got my refund for my premium membership before I even got a response on my ticket about getting bad codes from gumroad.

I recommend just not giving them anymore money.

Personally, I'm thankful that Dappervolk decided to split the monthly set between Oran and Pai. By having one part of the set locked behind potatoes, it creates value for potatoes and acts as an important "gold/potato sink" and essentially gives free to play users an opportunity to trade for Pai's half.

I have no complaints about Oran's half not being included in the Mothlike Silver Chest. I do, however, agree that an $18 price point is quite expensive even if it did include Oran's half (which I am personally against). I know the higher price point is to incentivize the Gacha aspect, but it'll still cost a minimum of $10.80 for Pai's half.

I personally do not and won't spend real money on Gacha/RNG/Loot Boxes and right now the $18 price point is too high for me to ever considering purchasing.

o m g please don't make gambling a thing on here... I'll want to get every singe piece before the month ends even if I shouldn't be spending RL money on here. The moth set is really cute but it's shame people gotta spend over $10+ just to be able to obtain them all...and even then they may not get all the pieces.

This is also straight up illegal in some countries so um. Enjoy not having certain groups of people not being able to play your game lol.

I'll be honest: when I saw the set I wanted it. I was prepared to spend money for it but then I saw that it was a gatcha. The potato gatcha is super fine, moneysink is a must on sites like this, but a MONEY gatcha?! Nah, this isn't a cellphone waifu collector. I know that I can buy the money part for "only" 1800 turnip (even if there's NO 1800 turnip purchase option, you're forced to pay more: classic lootbox shit strategy) and if this was from the start the only way to get it, I would have bought it: I'm fine with supporting the team if I can do it. But why should I support a team that decided to ignore his community feedback on the very same topic in beta? The message is clear: we only want your money. So no, I didn't buy a thing, I've got all the pieces from trademarket.

I am fairly certain this is illegal in some places. You might want to fix it quick.
  • Villager Suska (#40327) 14 Jul 2020, 10:58 am
I just want to support the voices saying that this isn't great - potato gambling is fine but the pieces you can only buy with real money currency should absolutely not be random. As others said, lootbox practices are immoral, illegal in many places now and just not cool.
