Hey there, looks like you just wandered in. Why not have a look around and stay for a while, maybe even start your own adventure, if you're into that.

July Update!

Hello world-hoppers! Welcome to July, our official first of a month on Dappervolk after launching. We'd like to thank everyone for a lovely launch week! It's been amazing to see everyone's response to our long months of hard work. We hope to continuously improve on the game and we're so excited to share more of it with you!

Without further ado, our first order of business is the unveiling of our very first Monthly Shop. July's theme is Mothlike!

These items were procured from a distant land full of moonlight, dusty books, and hidden knowledge.

What are Monthly Shops?
  • Every month, Pai, Oran, and Agnes from Peddler's Port will have different sets of 6 items in their shops that will retire at the end of the month.
  • These items are obtained from far away lands and follow the theme of the land they visited each month.
  • The items will retire at the end of each month to be replaced by new stock.
  • All retired items from Monthly Shops will eventually be able to be obtained rarely from Grandma Agnes later on.

How can I get to Peddler's Port?
Peddler's Port is a seaside location that you can unlock by going through the main storyline in Louise Hill. Once unlocked, you can visit Peddler's Port any time without using up a town hop!

Pai's Machine of Wonders
Pai will host these 6 items in their shop this month for 180 turnips per spin. If you spin 10 times, you will be able to choose a free item of your choice! Free spins will expire after about 3 months.

Oran's Emporium
Oran's shop will be stocked with these 6 items for 6000 potatoes per spin!

agnesmoth.png
Agnes' Perpetual Shop
Agne's now hosts a Mothlike Silver Chest that contains a full set of items from Pai's shop at a higher total turnip cost.

These monthly shops will run until July 31st, after which they will be refurbished to house August's monthly items!

charitypet.png

The Charity Pet Sale will be concluding on July 4th, we will be donating all remaining proceeds by the 5th and sending out redemption code emails then!

launchbundles.png

The Launch Support Bundles will be retiring permanently on July 5th, after which they will no longer be available!
All remaining redemption codes will be sent out after the 5th.

Upcoming Events
We have a big summer event planned to happen some time in August.
For the time being, we will likely be hosting another Adventuring Riddle Contest at some point this month!

That's all for now, we'll be updating everyone through future news and status posts!
Thank you so much for playing and supporting Dappervolk.

I heart you dv team, but I feel obligated to voice my concern (alongside many others here) regarding gambling with real life currency. Someone else mentioned the fact that there are players under gambling age here and I'm just worried about it being a legal gray area. ; ^ ; And...probably also an ethical gray area, haha.

I'm all for that sweet sweet dopamine hit with potat gachas, but I think it makes sense that this isn't sitting well with a lot of folks.

i love the items but i agree with everyone saying how we're really just gambling for these items... im a minor and therefore not legally allowed to gamble and this is just.... bruh

Two years ago I would've never spent money on website games or apps, or the like.
You know why? Because of things like this. This makes me mistrust the people behind it.

FR was so far the only site, on which I after some time thought "Okay this needs money to run & I want to support this!" because by then I trusted the staff to not see the playerbase as nothing else than a moneymachine.

Those sets are beautiful, I personally adore them, I love moths, I love the colors & I'm by far not the only one and yes, there will be people spending money on you this way.
Some because they dont see a problem with this - othr's because they will feel pressured into it thinking they have to, because else they're gonna miss out.

Even if this does generate money, this really should not be your preferred way to earn it.

I signed up here with my positive experiences in mind & even though I was here for a short time only, I already considered putting money into this.
For those sets I probably would have, because I seriously adore them - but RLC gambling in general is awful, on a site where minors are allowed even way worse, selling half bundles for a price like this really questionable (many of your players won't be able to afford this each month, even if they wanted & tried to) & like this I really do not want to & will not support this site with real money.

Please consider making your playerbase spend money on you by being trustworthy & making them want to support you, by making things accessible to a wider range of the playerbase & not by creating ways to milk them for money without care.

This is very sad to watch. It's very sad to see a site that people watched things grow on, support with all their heart, then do predatory things like this.

My heart goes to the people who won't support this or can't purchase the set due to the expenses and bad marketing. It really breaks my heart, I was super excited until I heard that premium is a basically worthless expense. It is the sites own job to watch over it's fan base and not use methods like gambling. It will cause issues for the children on this site, considering the site is 13+.

Premium sounds like a good idea in practice but I cannot see myself supporting a site that markets off of children. We already have hundreds of users buying the monthly outfit bundles, and I don't see the difference between this and those. It's disappointing, considering people already have to wait 7 - 10 days for their items from an offsite source. I really hope to see some things change because at this rate you'll lose so many people who put their heart into this site to see it blossom. Staff had so many different alternatives and did not go through with them. It's not something you hide from the supporters and, honestly, I don't see how any of this can go on with peace of mind for them.

I also wish to see staff address the art style changes. That's not something you hide in development of a site, that's misleading and unfortunate. You market this different painted style in a game then change it behind users backs and expected us not to see that. Many people have spoken out about it and staff has said nothing. To lie and not reveal changes to a community of people that have funded you well over $94K is wrong and should be taken in to heavy, heavy consideration. I hope to see some serious changes in the progressive future from Dappervolk and it's staff, because people sincerely thought that this was a way to get away from all of the other predatory and manipulative pet sites out there. You're not putting yourself into a good light here.

I think they look beautiful and I cannot wait until I lock the shops to try my luck at getting some of them!
  • Villager Katsuokai (#1308) 2 Jul 2020, 2:01 am
No, we already brought up the predatory nature of real life currency gacha games in beta, and now there's this.

The items are beautiful, I want them, but they will retire and I have no money to spend right now. Even if I had money to spend, why would I spend this much money on retiring items every single month?

Will these items cycle back to the premium shops eventually or are they 100% retired?

Also, this game is marketed towards adults and minors, and encouraging minors to play gacha-style games wouldn't surprise me if it eventually became illegal in many countries.
  • Villager Katsuokai (#1308) 2 Jul 2020, 2:10 am
OK, read too fast, the retired items will be obtainable at Agnes' shop, rarely. But how large will that stock of items become after a couple of months or years? Too large, I dare say. My previous point still stand, real life currency gacha games are predatory, more so on a site where minors play.
  • Villager Luxx (#578) 2 Jul 2020, 2:28 am
As an adult with disposable income, yeah this works for me. Though I was under the impression the premium store would be "pick and choose" like the other stores in The Peddler's Port area.

And like so many others are pointing out this is a game advertised to minors. Gacha with premium currency is borderline gambling. I guess legally you're in the clear cause you can earn premium currency by playing the game (nevermind the fact it'll take several months to even earn up enough for 1 spin) But morally this is a really bad look.

I really hope you reconsider the premium gacha.

The expensive potato gacha can stay.
  • Villager Pucine (#3449) 2 Jul 2020, 2:41 am
It is pretty predatory to put a gatcha with money in a game suited for minor, why not setting it as a "choose what you buy"? Rarity of limited items will not be affected when you remove the random chance.
  • Villager Shasura (#21952) 2 Jul 2020, 3:07 am
Another one bites the RLC gacha
  • Villager dawnan (#13672) 2 Jul 2020, 4:20 am
I love thos set ita gorgeous and I understand you need momey BUT gacha is not the way to do it, its the same as loot boxes and it's very predatory, the fact they "retire" will cause fomo causing people suceptible to this stuff to llikely succumb and spend money only to gamble it away missing out on the item they need, if you're going to charge money for premium items DON'T make it a gamble.
I had to stop playing mobile games all together due to this I spent hundreds of my money on games and came to regret it later as I have no disposible income. I was lucky my mum helped me stop but others don't have that luxury.

If yous care for your playerbase yous won't keep real world currency gambling, atleast thats my thought on the matter
  • Villager Teamfailboat (#23909) 2 Jul 2020, 4:29 am
I agree with many of the comments here, loot boxes / cash gatcha are predatory and clearly designed to make people spend as much money as possible.

I would like to support this site and the devs but I will not be gambling money to do so.

Many have suggested the idea of a premium shop where users can choose from items to purchase, this would remove the gambling aspect from the shop.

I hope the devs listen to the community on this and consider alternatives.
  • Villager Grimling (#15239) 2 Jul 2020, 6:41 am
nevermind me, just feeling like a clown after actually buying the turnips and not thinking things through lmao

((Honestly tho, reading all of this, I agree completely that a real currency gacha has no place on a site that maintains that it is also marketed towards minors! As a person who has a disposable income to spend on stuff like this, yes it’s my choice - gambling is always a morally grey background, but it’s important to address immediately! I hope devs reconsider moving the turnip gacha to a simply premium shop!))
  • Villager Strawberry (#2519) 2 Jul 2020, 6:52 am
Gonna echo everyone else and say this gacha for real life currency is gross and predatory behavior. ESPECIALLY on a site that allows minors, like... It's illegal for them to gamble with real money. This will encourage them to develop gambling issues when growing up and that is AWFUL.

Why have the devs not listened to us since beta? There was a hoard of people voicing the exact same thing as now back then...

Then I also wanna say something I said personally during beta. This kind of lootbox gambling system is ILLEGAL in some countries. Belgium users are not gonna be able to use Pai's chance machine due to lootboxes and gacha for real money in games being illegal in Belgium. If the devs do not remove that feature for those Belgian users they will be in trouble with the Belgian law. There's a reason Overwatch and Nintendo had to remove all those features for Belgian users...

And after that point, if the devs are intending to continue with this horrible model and exclude a portion of their userbase and also people who potentially made this game possible through kickstarter, then that's really showing how much the devs care about them vs. moneygrabbing. It is much easier to change the formula to not be a chance machine. I SINCERELY hope the devs care and listen about what we are saying NOW, because they obviously did not during beta and that disappoints me to hell and back...
