Hey there, looks like you just wandered in. Why not have a look around and stay for a while, maybe even start your own adventure, if you're into that.

Welcome to August!

Hello everyone! We hope you've been doing well and having fun as we kick off the start to the month of August. This update includes our new monthly shops announcement, event updates, and some pertinent progress reports!

Our second month of limited shops is finally here:
August's theme is the mysterious Rosethorn Forest!

These items were procured from the vision of a nighttime forest.
Freshly fallen leaves line the ground, soft crimson rendering your
footsteps silent. A perpetual dusk envelopes the gloom, vibrant
thorns block your path...

What are Monthly Shops?
  • Every month, Pai and Oran from Peddler's Port will have different sets of 6 items in their shops that will retire at the end of the month to be replaced by new stock.
  • These items are obtained from far away lands and follow the theme of the land they visited each month.
  • All retired items from Monthly Shops will eventually be able to be obtained very rarely from Grandma Agnes later on.

How can I get to Peddler's Port?
Peddler's Port is a seaside location that you can unlock by going through the main storyline in Louise Hill. Once unlocked, you can visit Peddler's Port any time without using up a town hop!
pairosethorn.png
Pai's Shop of Wonders
Pai will host these 6 items in their infinite stock shop this month for 200 turnips each. If you spend 2000 turnips, you will be able to choose a free item of your choice! Free item claims will expire 3 months after obtaining them.

oranrosethorn.png
Oran's Emporium
Oran's shop will be stocked with these 6 items for 9,000 potatoes per spin! The spin price has been increased compared to last month, in order to adjust for inflation as more currency is generated by players and the economy begins to find its footing after just over a month since the site launched.

These monthly shops will run until August 31st, after which they will be removed to house September's monthly items!

AUGUST SUMMER EVENT
augsummereventprev.png
We have a big summer event planned to happen some time this month. We're aiming for a mid-August release, so we will have more information about the specifics of the event for everyone soon!

LHriddlecontestbanner.png

Our Adventuring Riddle Contest is also now under way!
It ends on August 30th, 2020 so get your submissions in before then!
Read our event rules and submission instructions here.

PROGRESS UPDATES
Here are some updates on a few things we're working on behind the scenes!

Custom Maker Submission Queue
We are aiming to open the Custom Maker Submission page some time in August! An update will be released at least a few days prior to its release, in order to give everyone time to prepare their submissions. We have also compiled some basic information about the system below, for anyone that is interested:
  • Your place in the queue will be displayed after submitting your request.
  • You'll be able to make edits to your request up until an artist claims it in order to begin working on it.
  • There will be a set of request rules and guidelines to follow for making custom submissions.
  • Since there is currently only one artist (for the timebeing), the queue will likely be worked on in relatively chronological fashion. However, when we eventually are able to hire more artists to the team, requests will be claimed based on what different artists are most comfortable with in order to maximize efficiency.

Guild Bug Fix Progress
This past week, we've tackled many of the most pertinent bugs related to guilds and have made good progress! We're currently extensively retesting and working on making sure nothing new broke as well as fixing the rest of the bugs. We'll continue to bring you updates on our progress and announce this month when Guild creation will become available officially!

Vaer's Reef Affection Milestone Quests
Some users who have gotten over 500 affection with NPC's from the 5th town may have noticed that the quest they've unlocked is missing from their quest page. These quests will become available soon, as we've been hard at work behind the scenes revising some of the Vaer storyline with user feedback in mind. Thank you for your patience as we make the quests available!

Trades Market Rule Breaking
There has been an unfortunate trend frequently reported to the Ticket Desk, where some users have been intentionally offering nothing/only a few potatoes on many trade lots in the Trades Market (regardless of what is being asked for), in the hopes that the other person will accidentally hit "accept" instead of "reject". We'd like to clarify that this practice is considered scamming and should be reported by users who spot it happening.

Thank you so much for playing and supporting
Dappervolk. We'll be back with more updates soon!

Well, as an extremely casual player this is kind of disappointing for me :/ 6k a spin was reasonable. With the dailies being SO click-heavy, it really starts to hurt my wrists/hands after completing dailies for just one town. With that being said the amount of potatoes I can make in a day is pretty limited, combined with my irl schedule if I even have time to complete them that day.

Hmm, really not sure about this price change... I don't even care too much for this set of items again, but I still feel 9k is steep, at least this early in the games life. Sure, you've got some people who will constantly farm for potatoes, but then I'm sure there's a lot who are getting burnt out by now from the constant however many dailies to do each day and will gradually stop earning potatoes to fuel the market. What's going to happen then, will the price of spins go down? Or how about the other way around, if people just so happen to keep making more and more potatoes, will they go way up again? I don't like that idea at all, they should be a set in stone price.

The past few days I've actually been really scraping by on collecting potatoes as a] my hands/wrists have been screaming for a break from all of the clicking of dailies so I've cut down to just NPCs for main quests or shop unlocks (hell, I'm also pretty sure my mouse button started acting up all BECAUSE of this sites clicking), I had actually already stopped playing playground games to full a week or so ago since they take way too long or don't even give the right reward so they're useless, and b] I've gotten into a spot where I'll be having a job soon, and boy has even just this training been taking a lot of my time up. So I'm sure once I actually start the work, I'll have even less time. I can't imagine those who currently have jobs or who have been starting to go back now can all keep up much.

Oh, and it's REAL awesome to still not have any mention of the art change again. (((: I was actually holding out and giving you guys some time for this news post to actually say something, but nope, let down yet again. I really don't want to lose hope on Dappervolk completely, but I'm getting there from all of this silence. :/

i understand the staff's attempt at trying to help the economy, and i think they're focusing on the wrong issue.

the need for another potato sink is because of cross wide trading, in my opinion. with turnips not being tradable, people turn to potatoes to use as currency for FR and others. while the g - p ratio is small, one can still make a decent profit in return. i'm not opposed to potato sinks, but rich members can still lose by spinning 60k
  • Villager DragonCat (#16091) 1 Aug 2020, 12:24 pm
Yep, yet another item set I won’t be getting. I barely got 3 items from the last set at 6,000. I thought the points was bad already, the account premium wasn’t worth it, and there’s no way I’m sitting here all day on dailies that are slow on top of unlocking towns. It’s offsite whales that are giving the rest of us casuals a bad name. :/

Honestly with every new terrible business practice and everything else that’s been going on, I don’t think I’m going to be staying longer after this month and that’s extremely disappointing. Listen to your players for once, we’re the ones who are staying, not the cash farmers.
  • Villager Genie (#1104) 1 Aug 2020, 12:32 pm
    I love the colors! ^o^

I was hoping the collection box would still be a thing though -

I'm sure there are many of us who were looking forward to stashing away the pretty boxes every month :')
  • Villager mousewife (#20124) 1 Aug 2020, 12:43 pm
I get that it sucks that this was an unannounced price hike but it's 9k a spin... from your dailies (not even the npc errands) you can get like 10k (though this can be somewhat rng, sometimes one thing can give you literally 1k...) play turnip thief 10 times, sell the 'nips, that's like 4k. that right there is a spin and a half for a shop that lasts 1 month and has 6 different times. not only this but it's SUPPOSED to be a money sink. I think they should've announced it but I don't think it's as big of a deal as many people do. give it a couple days and the prices on the trades market will be lower and lower and soon they'll be less than a spin even. granted I play more than a casual player but with how much everything makes I know this is still affordable to everyone.

I do sympathize with those who say this game hurts their hands though - I have crps and I know how bad the clicking can get. so I'm all for more keyboard support, always!

    - but ultimately the issue at hand is that I really don't think this minor change deserves the hate its getting. these items are supposed to be a money sink. they shouldnt even be this easy to get. people need to relax. remember how cheap the moth items became at the end of the month? I'd argue these are gonna be more popular even, despite the price. if you don't play often and can't spin a bunch, just wait and get one on the market for even cheaper.

devs, just be sure to announce any kind of change like this, if possible.
  • Villager mousewife (#20124) 1 Aug 2020, 12:46 pm
I may have been generous in the amount the daily tasks give you alone, but regardless this is still incredibly affordable
  • Villager Cruellinnet (#19209) 1 Aug 2020, 12:48 pm
okay whoever is in charge of prices just needs to stop.

I don't even care if my account gets banned for speaking out against the devs anymore. this is stupid.

You DONT raise prices like this on people! 6k per spin was a lot to begin with, and it's already been upped to 200 turnips instead of 180.

This is the dumbest thing I've literally ever seen in my entire life and I live in America were Trump is President. Boo. bad.

Flight rising doesn't even do this stuff. neither does mycena cave and you can literally purchase gems there with cash OR nuggets. It's 10 gems for a monthly pet there and 3 for the monthly store items and it's been that way since 2015 at minimum. Increasing premium shop prices to adjust for inflation is stupid. Period. Nothing else needs to be said.

the items are GOING to increase in value anyway since they retire at the end of the month. This artificial inflation on this is literally worse than anything I've ever seen in a pet site before.
  • Villager elk (#13012) 1 Aug 2020, 1:03 pm
just voicing my own joy over how pretty this set is, and echoing that i think the price is beyond reasonable. as the items seem intended to be collectibles, it makes sense that they arent items that a casual player can get a full set of within the first day of release, but could easily get within the month if they wanted.

i think that raising the rate even beyond this wouldn't be unreasonable in the months to come -- balancing these early day petsite currency things is really challenging, and there's always going to be a disparity brought by trying to persuade players who consistently sit on 500k+ to sink (as i know many people do, esp bc there isn't much to spend tates on once you're done w vaer reef, unless you're exchanging for fr gems or pouncing on ks items being sold for tates), while also trying to make sure casual players aren't completely barred from collecting the items they like. as long as a single spin remains obtainable from 1-2 days of casual dailies, i think it's fine.

i do agree with the sentiments of other users in saying that a lot of this could probably be solved with the ability to trade for turnips, though, and i hope the mods are considering that as an option!
  • Villager Kalkyrie (#6623) 1 Aug 2020, 1:12 pm
    I'm really frustrated by this.

I love this site, the art, the story. Its great! However there's so many little things adding up to so much frustration.
The endless clicking for dailies and games wrecks my hands and wrists. The lack of transparency, consistency, and letting us know what gets updated before it happens is a big mess.

I understand the need for currency sinks. No one wants another gaia to happen. However no one even asked the community on their opinion of raising oran's prices. We weren't warned. Our opinions don't seem to matter and that's so frustrating especially with such a vocal community. I know 9k isn't a lot to regular users but to anyone remotely casual that's a lot of potatoes! Why can't we have a different sink instead of raising these prices? Nico's shop is amazing, why not more like that instead? I'm sure everyone would love more basic items to use like hairstyles, shoes, eyes, anything!

I just wish the DV team put more effort where it matters. Listening to the community, fixing more important things, addressing big concerns(art inconsistency???). It would really go a long way for the sites longevity.
There's just so much dang potential here and I don't want to see it die.
  • Villager Hotarla (#25612) 1 Aug 2020, 1:13 pm
So I noticed there's no set box anymore? D: Does this mean the ideas been retired? I don't mind paying a little extra in order to get the monthly set as a boxed set.
  • Villager Iona (#10494) 1 Aug 2020, 1:16 pm
Well said, Kalkyrie (#6623). My thoughts exactly.
  • Villager Hall (#3178) 1 Aug 2020, 1:27 pm
I don't understand why both batches of items couldn't be put in a bundle for RLC? I thought the point of monthly collectibles was to entice users to spend RLC because ooo limited and to help support the site. Keep the potato gacha but why not a full bundle so people who want everything and have the means can get them without hassle. Potato sinks could definitely come on other forms.

"Echoing everyone else here who thinks the price increase is ridiculous (and a little bit underhanded tbh)"

    SAME

I can afford it but JFC- not restoring one of a kind items that people accidentally alchemize; having IRL currency gambling (did you even have the proper legal permits?!); making stealth updates like food not longer giving stats/affinities; nerfing a popular Luck item that people were making $$$ trades for so that it is now both worthless and a waste of whatever they traded for it; walking back the original premium perks; a riddle contest with majorly underwhelming prizes; a ludicrously time consuming & injury producing number of Daily Grinding tasks if we want to generate ANY amount of currency at all; an IMMENSELY tone deaf Vaer reef storyline; and now, jacking up the price of monthly items by 50% to 'balance the economy' in only the second month of play?

This is a lot of REALLY bad stuff for not even have been running two months, and it's *that much worse* for having had a beta period for players to test it out and give some feedback on things. That's a lot of bad player feeling to generate right at the start, especially when you are alienating people who have been who have been here since KS and/or beta and presumably put some time/effort/$$ into wanting to see the site prosper. Which i guess it's possible to still with bad business practices & turning a deaf ear to your players, it's still a bad idea to do so.
