Hey there, looks like you just wandered in. Why not have a look around and stay for a while, maybe even start your own adventure, if you're into that.

Welcome to August!

Hello everyone! We hope you've been doing well and having fun as we kick off the start to the month of August. This update includes our new monthly shops announcement, event updates, and some pertinent progress reports!

Our second month of limited shops is finally here:
August's theme is the mysterious Rosethorn Forest!

These items were procured from the vision of a nighttime forest.
Freshly fallen leaves line the ground, soft crimson rendering your
footsteps silent. A perpetual dusk envelopes the gloom, vibrant
thorns block your path...

What are Monthly Shops?
  • Every month, Pai and Oran from Peddler's Port will have different sets of 6 items in their shops that will retire at the end of the month to be replaced by new stock.
  • These items are obtained from far away lands and follow the theme of the land they visited each month.
  • All retired items from Monthly Shops will eventually be able to be obtained very rarely from Grandma Agnes later on.

How can I get to Peddler's Port?
Peddler's Port is a seaside location that you can unlock by going through the main storyline in Louise Hill. Once unlocked, you can visit Peddler's Port any time without using up a town hop!

Pai's Shop of Wonders
Pai will host these 6 items in their infinite stock shop this month for 200 turnips each. If you spend 2000 turnips, you will be able to choose a free item of your choice! Free item claims will expire 3 months after obtaining them.

Oran's Emporium
Oran's shop will be stocked with these 6 items for 9,000 potatoes per spin! The spin price has been increased compared to last month, in order to adjust for inflation as more currency is generated by players and the economy begins to find its footing after just over a month since the site launched.

These monthly shops will run until August 31st, after which they will be removed to house September's monthly items!

AUGUST SUMMER EVENT
augsummereventprev.png
We have a big summer event planned to happen some time this month. We're aiming for a mid-August release, so we will have more information about the specifics of the event for everyone soon!

Our Adventuring Riddle Contest is also now under way!
It ends on August 30th, 2020 so get your submissions in before then!
Read our event rules and submission instructions here.

PROGRESS UPDATES
Here are some updates on a few things we're working on behind the scenes!

Custom Maker Submission Queue
We are aiming to open the Custom Maker Submission page some time in August! An update will be released at least a few days prior to its release, in order to give everyone time to prepare their submissions. We have also compiled some basic information about the system below, for anyone that is interested:
  • Your place in the queue will be displayed after submitting your request.
  • You'll be able to make edits to your request up until an artist claims it in order to begin working on it.
  • There will be a set of request rules and guidelines to follow for making custom submissions.
  • Since there is currently only one artist (for the timebeing), the queue will likely be worked on in relatively chronological fashion. However, when we eventually are able to hire more artists to the team, requests will be claimed based on what different artists are most comfortable with in order to maximize efficiency.

Guild Bug Fix Progress
This past week, we've tackled many of the most pertinent bugs related to guilds and have made good progress! We're currently extensively retesting and working on making sure nothing new broke as well as fixing the rest of the bugs. We'll continue to bring you updates on our progress and announce this month when Guild creation will become available officially!

Vaer's Reef Affection Milestone Quests
Some users who have gotten over 500 affection with NPC's from the 5th town may have noticed that the quest they've unlocked is missing from their quest page. These quests will become available soon, as we've been hard at work behind the scenes revising some of the Vaer storyline with user feedback in mind. Thank you for your patience as we make the quests available!

Trades Market Rule Breaking
There has been an unfortunate trend frequently reported to the Ticket Desk, where some users have been intentionally offering nothing/only a few potatoes on many trade lots in the Trades Market (regardless of what is being asked for), in the hopes that the other person will accidentally hit "accept" instead of "reject". We'd like to clarify that this practice is considered scamming and should be reported by users who spot it happening.

Thank you so much for playing and supporting
Dappervolk. We'll be back with more updates soon!

    I think that was a mis-ping... but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The mothlike chest was 1800 turnips.
The full set this month is 1200 turnips.

Just gonna pop in here again to say I 100% agree with everything said by Kalkyrie (#6623) & Butcherbaby (#27689) !
Also, if staff is going to continue to raise the price like this, I would personally love a little focus on making the site a little less click-heavy if at all possible? Honestly the only hope I'll ever have of obtaining these items is if there's a way that is less physically painful for me to make potatoes. I'm having a hard enough time as it is just getting through 1 town's worth of daily errands. At the rate I'm progressing, and with all of the miscommunication & some poor decision-making on staff's end, I'm finding it a bit difficult to justify continuing to play. There are definitely other ways to incorporate a potato sink that are less discouraging to casual players.
Additionally, the amount relatively obtainable wearables onsite feels EXTREMELY lacking for me personally. Building my wardrobe and dressing up my avatar are a huuuuuuuuuge reason why I love to play sites like this, and it sucks having to constantly "settle" for an outfit because none of the clothes onsite feel varied enough. and now the nicest item sets will be borderline unobtainable for me which is extremely discouraging. Perhaps introducing some more "newbie" / basic / affordable clothes would be great to balance it out if there is no intention to lower the spin price back down? Perhaps a step up from Nico's? Just my two cents!!

whoops !! "Additionally, the amount OF relatively obtainable wearables..." an edit button would be great too lol orz

I'm mostly upset with the dramatic drop in quality between the two sets - the items this month available through potatoes just don't give me the incentive to even pay the 6000 nevertheless the 9000. I don't mind a potato sink since there's none atm, but like, make it worth it? It felt like last month had at least a little balance but..

I'm curious about a couple of these- my food still gives me the same chances for stat/affinity increases as it always has, and I was under the impression that the changes to the premium system were made after most users disliked the first attempt.

Hey adding to the chorus of players complaining about the price hike.

I'm a very casual player, I rarely talk on the forums and I'll do the dailys I can. However I only have access to two towns and my dailys are limited. I understand that each town has a quest thats difficult to do to limit blasting blasting through all of them. However when a quest requires spinning a gatcha to get through; its a big bummer since I have to spend the potatoes I just spent a long time earning.

The best way I've found to earn potatoes is to hatch 5 pets and merge them, and even that takes 5 days; and usually more since I don't log in every day. When I did this I could get 3 spins out of the potatoes I got, and now I can barely get 2.

I am glad that one is able to get monthly items without having to spend irl money to buy currency but it is a bummer that the price has changed by so much. I'm also worried to see how this price change will affect the items in the trades market.
  • Villager Devichi (#6237) 1 Aug 2020, 6:08 pm
No bundle this time? Oof. Love the items though.
  • Villager LucidDreams (#2093) 1 Aug 2020, 6:13 pm
"the items are GOING to increase in value anyway since they retire at the end of the month. This artificial inflation on this is literally worse than anything I've ever seen in a pet site before."

^They haven't increased the prices to inflate the values of the items, they've increased the prices to account for inflation of the economy.

I think it's a great idea to personally. :x Money sinks are good, otherwise we'll just end up with a currency (potatoes) that isn't worth much. 6k potatoes isn't worth as much now as it was last month due to the amount of potatoes being generated, it's a good idea to get more of them out of circulation.
  • Villager Poppy (#221) 1 Aug 2020, 7:01 pm
Okay you guys. Listen. The price of the lowest costing pet is like 6-7k potatoes. If you hatch pets that are 8-10k potatoes - it only takes maybe 8-10 hours to hatch it - you will be able to buy an item from the potato monthly shop EVERY DAY.

At this point I think some of you just don’t like this style of game and are complaining for the sake of complaining. DV team has fixed a good handful of the problems that have been brought forward and are adamantly working on fixing others.

Complaining for the sake of complaining is getting old quick. If you’re just launching into DV staff & changes to echo everyone else, you’re being rude.

Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
  • Villager Poppy (#221) 1 Aug 2020, 7:16 pm
&& Furthermore, this month’s item set is absolutely beautiful. Even if the colors / style aren’t everyone’s favorite, I think we all can agree that the artwork is stunning. Quis & DV team, you are doing a great job. Use your tenacity skills to get through all this negativity. ;3

    Poppy (#221)
No is just complaining for the 'sake of it'. God forbid users bring up valid concerns only to be shot down as 'negativity'. It costs nothing to the dv devs to give a heads up that there were going to be changes in prices towards the potato gatcha. It's as if they DON'T want user input. Allegation? Yes. Rude? No. While it's great they have listened to user concerns last month during the end there are still ongoing things that still have not gotten staff response towards.

You want to be positive and uplifting, that's great. Just don't be also rude to other users who have justified criticism.

    Didronay (#13968)
really? I think these items are much much nicer than the moth items last month.
  • Villager Poppy (#221) 1 Aug 2020, 7:51 pm
Narshe (#4941) - If you read back in the suggestions, I was one of the biggest criticizers of DV staff. There are legitimate points raised here, but people have been complaining since the moment this game came out of the gate & seem to be forgetting all of the good parts.

You want to watch the ship sink before it has a chance to sail? And if you want to attack me, fine, but it doesn’t take away from my argument.
  • Villager Duckiepup (#16253) 1 Aug 2020, 7:59 pm
Seems like everyone here just complains lol

I think the staff has done a fantastic job at taking user feedback and applying it in a way that provides balance and fun! The gacha and premium items this month are also drop dead GORGEOUS. You've all done a fantastic job!
  • Villager Ender (#13839) 1 Aug 2020, 8:45 pm
9k seems totally reasonable imo. You can easily make 5-10k potatoes doing one day of dailies in a single town. And we have a month to earn the money. Just do your Louise Hill dailies for a week and you can afford the entire set easily.

I understand that there are casual players who never ever quest who can't afford this, but so what? If you don't play, you can't afford the fancy stuff. That's how games work. For the players who do actually quest or make money other ways, it's important for us to have stuff to spend out potatoes on. I have 200k potatoes rotting in my vault, and I'm not even questing every day! I haven't sold any pets or anything yet! I'm sure there's already people who've hit a mil or more.

It's important that DV tries to pull those excess potatoes out of the economy and balance prices, especially at this early stage. No one wants to see the site economy turn out like Neo or Gaia.
