Hey there, looks like you just wandered in. Why not have a look around and stay for a while, maybe even start your own adventure, if you're into that.

Welcome to August!

Hello everyone! We hope you've been doing well and having fun as we kick off the start to the month of August. This update includes our new monthly shops announcement, event updates, and some pertinent progress reports!

Our second month of limited shops is finally here:
August's theme is the mysterious Rosethorn Forest!

These items were procured from the vision of a nighttime forest.
Freshly fallen leaves line the ground, soft crimson rendering your
footsteps silent. A perpetual dusk envelopes the gloom, vibrant
thorns block your path...

What are Monthly Shops?
  • Every month, Pai and Oran from Peddler's Port will have different sets of 6 items in their shops that will retire at the end of the month to be replaced by new stock.
  • These items are obtained from far away lands and follow the theme of the land they visited each month.
  • All retired items from Monthly Shops will eventually be able to be obtained very rarely from Grandma Agnes later on.

How can I get to Peddler's Port?
Peddler's Port is a seaside location that you can unlock by going through the main storyline in Louise Hill. Once unlocked, you can visit Peddler's Port any time without using up a town hop!
pairosethorn.png
Pai's Shop of Wonders
Pai will host these 6 items in their infinite stock shop this month for 200 turnips each. If you spend 2000 turnips, you will be able to choose a free item of your choice! Free item claims will expire 3 months after obtaining them.

oranrosethorn.png
Oran's Emporium
Oran's shop will be stocked with these 6 items for 9,000 potatoes per spin! The spin price has been increased compared to last month, in order to adjust for inflation as more currency is generated by players and the economy begins to find its footing after just over a month since the site launched.

These monthly shops will run until August 31st, after which they will be removed to house September's monthly items!

AUGUST SUMMER EVENT
augsummereventprev.png
We have a big summer event planned to happen some time this month. We're aiming for a mid-August release, so we will have more information about the specifics of the event for everyone soon!

LHriddlecontestbanner.png

Our Adventuring Riddle Contest is also now under way!
It ends on August 30th, 2020 so get your submissions in before then!
Read our event rules and submission instructions here.

PROGRESS UPDATES
Here are some updates on a few things we're working on behind the scenes!

Custom Maker Submission Queue
We are aiming to open the Custom Maker Submission page some time in August! An update will be released at least a few days prior to its release, in order to give everyone time to prepare their submissions. We have also compiled some basic information about the system below, for anyone that is interested:
  • Your place in the queue will be displayed after submitting your request.
  • You'll be able to make edits to your request up until an artist claims it in order to begin working on it.
  • There will be a set of request rules and guidelines to follow for making custom submissions.
  • Since there is currently only one artist (for the timebeing), the queue will likely be worked on in relatively chronological fashion. However, when we eventually are able to hire more artists to the team, requests will be claimed based on what different artists are most comfortable with in order to maximize efficiency.

Guild Bug Fix Progress
This past week, we've tackled many of the most pertinent bugs related to guilds and have made good progress! We're currently extensively retesting and working on making sure nothing new broke as well as fixing the rest of the bugs. We'll continue to bring you updates on our progress and announce this month when Guild creation will become available officially!

Vaer's Reef Affection Milestone Quests
Some users who have gotten over 500 affection with NPC's from the 5th town may have noticed that the quest they've unlocked is missing from their quest page. These quests will become available soon, as we've been hard at work behind the scenes revising some of the Vaer storyline with user feedback in mind. Thank you for your patience as we make the quests available!

Trades Market Rule Breaking
There has been an unfortunate trend frequently reported to the Ticket Desk, where some users have been intentionally offering nothing/only a few potatoes on many trade lots in the Trades Market (regardless of what is being asked for), in the hopes that the other person will accidentally hit "accept" instead of "reject". We'd like to clarify that this practice is considered scamming and should be reported by users who spot it happening.

Thank you so much for playing and supporting
Dappervolk. We'll be back with more updates soon!

    Poppy (#221) they were 6k before now they are 9k — 50%.

My criticism towards staff doesn't come out of malicious intent. I avidly love and support DV but they are also able to recieve valid criticism about the way they change things about the site with no sort of heads up. I love the monthly items, the issue is communicating with the user base. Comments here saying we are just complaining for no reason invalidates the community who wants to see it better.

Dilla (#35971), I’m not giving them too much slack. I wrote the complaint about customer service, if you take a look. I’m an IT professional. My masters degree is cyber security. Trust me, I understand programming. My creds aren’t what’s being questioned though.

Complaints are ‘so loud’ because people keep repeating the same things. Give staff time to work on the issues, these things aren’t going to happen during the first and second months. I’m not blaming anyone - just advising everyone to relax a bit.
  • Villager Poppy (#221) 2 Aug 2020, 7:33 am
I was under the impression they were 7k. If that’s not the case, my bad.
  • Villager Dilla (#35971) 2 Aug 2020, 7:38 am
Poppy (#221) I’ll fully admit to going off memory and maybe what someone else wrote at some point. The prices are at some many different levels on the site that I’m not 100% either. I even spun the shop the day before it changed and I’m not 100% sure anymore. I’m not keen on either amount of increase tbh - my customers would balk at either percentage if my prices increased that much, from experience :)

Yeah. I think a lot of reactions are high (myself included) from the underlying messages from other users of “you’re just overreacting”. The enjoyment of a game can be greatly damaged by fear of where the game is headed (which is my concern) and invalidation of those concerns. I want this game to do well, I think it’s pretty neat and lovely in a lot of ways. I’d really hate to see it squander it by getting money hungry like so many other games have done, I’ve been burnt so many times before.
  • Villager Poppy (#221) 2 Aug 2020, 7:44 am
Dilla (#35971) - Your concerns are valid, and I apologize if I made you feel invalidated. My intended message is that we all need to chill off for a little bit and just let things progress. There’s an old saying that goes something like this, “worrying just makes you feel the damage twice.”

I played Neopets for like 15 years, and watched as they drove their site into the ground. It was sad. But this site is just a baby site, and needs some time. The staff all seem like good honest people, and I have no doubts yet that they will do the right things for the site. Plus this community has no qualms about speaking up, most of us having been burned by sites in the past.
  • Villager Ferinsy (#30206) 2 Aug 2020, 8:41 am
People spending time here with complainments could get 1 or 2 spins in the meantime if they were questing :P "I can't play that much" (but can spend several minutes here typing excuses and responses...

I mean, I do think it's a little shady of staff raising potato price without a warning, but the economy is still young, we saw accessory artists raise their custom prices from 25-50k to 100-300k without previous warning week after week, it's a normal thing that'll happen for a couple of months until economy kinda stabilizes.

I've only been idly browsing comments but the amount of people seemingly being so aggressive towards casual players is Woof. People are allowed to have opinions, absolutely: on both sides.
I'm relatively casual, but still get a lot done throughout the day which I'm pretty darn proud of. But I have a cyst in my wrist. Had it for ages, clicking sites don't treat me well and are quite frankly painful but I play them because I love them and like to do things that make me happy. I most often make my money through careful trading instead on them. So really, being told to not complain because I should apparently be putting in more clicking is... well, it's sure something.

But otherwise I've got to say I love this set! The colours are so killer, I hope to be able to get some nice pieces! And that promo art? Wow, beautiful.
  • Villager Evangelion (#27011) 2 Aug 2020, 10:13 am
Thankfully I can type with both my left and right hand, but unfortunately I can only click with my right, which tends to cause my arthritis to flare up in that wrist pretty badly. Typing for a few minutes vs. clicking for (approximately a minimum of) 30+ minutes to complete daily errands share literally no correlation. I see nothing wrong with suggesting a method that is less click-heavy to complete daily errands to help make this price increase more feasible for users who physically have a hard time making potatoes.
    [br]
Not only that, but users are absolutely allowed to have opinions on both sides. If "negative" opinions or legitimate criticisms aren't welcome by staff, then they are welcome to say so or turn off comments and run the site however they choose. But as far as I know that is not the case, so I'm going to assume they hopefully take everyone's thoughts into consideration. I think it's important that users aren't made to feel afraid or shamed for voicing what direction they would like to see the site take, especially since we obviously ALL want it to succeed. Is the hostility really necessary towards users who share the same goal?
  • Villager Evangelion (#27011) 2 Aug 2020, 10:14 am
Well that BBcode line break was pointless and my shame is eternal lol
  • Villager Astraleaf (#17183) 2 Aug 2020, 11:21 am
I haven't read all comments, but just a PSA:

Did you know you can press the "F" key to fast-forward through NPC dialogue?

It helps eliminate a lot of clicking (though obviously not all of it).

If you're doing a daily quest and you see the beginning text and know how it's going to end, just press "F" to fast-forward to the next dialogue choice.

    > Legally they cannot sell potatoes for real world currency, but they can put things in game that can be converted turnip to potato. (This is the legalities, they *cannot* sell cash to potatoes directly).

You've lost me with that. can you explain why it would be illegal?

I understand wanting the devs to talk about this more in regards of what they expect for the future. Those of us answering you aren't trying to invalidate your complaint, just trying to preempt their answer, which is just going to be "we don't know, we'll try not to to increase it more because we are aware players would not like it, but the site is young and we are still tweaking the economy, hence big changes like that happening now".

They don't intend to make it cost 3k more potatoes every month! Of course not. But it's not unlikely they will keep tweaking some stuff if potatoes drop in value too much, they could add more stuff to buy, or maybe lower the playground cap. Like you said, you know about game economy so you can yourself think of other good ways to manage balance.
  • Villager Astraleaf (#17183) 2 Aug 2020, 11:55 am
I also don't mind the increase to 9k due to inflation. Inflation's bound to happen and I appreciate their transparency in telling us about it, instead of just silently increasing it. I also don't believe they intend to increase it by 3k every month, they're just trying to figure out our economy now, this early in the site's history. ^_^

You have 30 days to make the necessary potatoes to get the items you want. You might not get everything, but that's why it's Premium. They have to make the turnips worth something. I like that Premium stuff is valuable. The people who get it are those who will either work really hard for it or pay turnips for it.
  • Villager Jin (#19739) 2 Aug 2020, 1:02 pm
The price increase is understandable, but I think Dappervolk is targeting the wrong players if they are concerned about the long term rate of inflation. In my opinion, 9k is still relatively affordable (maybe even cheap) but that's only because pets currently sell for around 7-8k minimum, but the value of pets will only continue to decrease. Unlike Flightrising, there is no long term pet sink where determined value can be gained (by exalting). Yes, there is pet alchemy but prices are currently determined solely by player demand, mainly by users that want alchemy pets ASAP, which will only decrease overtime once players eventually obtain them. The other ways to earn potatoes (daily errands, playground, and adventuring) are quite tedious for the return.

I don't like the horns, they're way too big and don't really look good since they're so gigantic, why didn't they make them smaller?
Other than that, I have no complaints about the set, I think it looks beautiful!
