Hey there, looks like you just wandered in. Why not have a look around and stay for a while, maybe even start your own adventure, if you're into that.

Summer Event Update!

As we enter into the home stretch of our Summer Festivities event, we have an important event update to announce!

The end of the event will be extended by 24 hours!
As of this post, the event timer will be updated to reflect this change.

Due to some staff work schedules shifting for this coming weekend, the end of the event will need to be extended in order to ensure that our main backend dev is able to be online during the final moments of the event where the site processes all final scores and awards. While not initially planned for, we hope that this extra time will give everyone a last minute opportunity to keep working on their scores and tier placements!

QUICK EVENT END INFORMATION
  • When the event timer hits "0 seconds left to help!", the event will close and automatically shift into processing all scores and reward data. It should take approximately 1 minute for everything to process, after which you may visit the event page to view your rewards!
  • All successfully unlocked overtime rewards will be automatically added onto your event rewards - everyone who participated in the event will receive these overtime items!
  • In order to update the site with new content associated with the ending of the event, we'll need to have a short maintenance downtime period at 12:30am DV time on September 6th (~30 minutes after the event ends). This should be quick, lasting approximately 15-20 minutes or less!
  • As a reminder to everyone, the Shimmering Embers event items will extinguish at the end of the event! Be sure to use them up for some easy Item Alchemy rewards, if you'd like, before they're wiped from player inventories.

Incredible community effort thus far on our
first major sitewide event since launch!

Huzzah for the time extension and thanks for the idea about Item Alchemy for excess Shimmering Embers. ^^

    Hooray! Thanks for the update

Maybe it's just me then. I had a natural curiosity about what would happen if I put them through alchemy. As someone who games a lot for a living, I'm used to games not giving me all of the information up front and discovering everything myself. WoW secrets finding comes to mind... so many lost hours for pets and mounts. Lol. XD

VEE (#675) I think it's good enough that they've said it now though! We still have a lot of time left, so people who have saved embers (like me) can now safely alch what I have. I agree that there have been some other transparency issues where the event is concerned but I don't think the embers should necessarily fall under that

I hit Elite Tier last night, but more than anything, I'm grateful for the confirmation that it's okay to use the Embers for Item Alchemy. I've been holding onto them just in case, stuck in that in-between of wanting to use them before they disappear, but afraid to use them just in case it was announced they'd be needed for something else. I'm glad I know I can alch them now.

Hey, thanks for telling us that 98% of the Embers will be useless, but next time there's an item like the Embers that will effectively be mostly useless AND will disappear once the event ends... Tell us in the beginning of the event that we can alchemize 98% of them, please. I have 300+ because I've been saving them just in case there was a secret at the end of the event that would require 300+ (which would be Dappervolk's style, lbr). Secrets on Dappervolk are cool, and you guys have been doing better with the status updates, letting us know that a deity's item is retired for the month and there's a new one to discover with the coming month. But next time, definitely tell us that an event item is alchemizable before it's a couple days from the end. I ran out of recipes TODAY.

Ryuu (#2610) yes i definitely agree its great they included it in the announcement! i very much appreciate that. i just highly agree with Cabeswater (#2019) - it would have been much better to know this from the start. many people ran out of recipes earlier on (thank goodness i didnt) and you can get recipes from alchemy. it would have helped a lot of people earlier on if they knew they could alchemize the embers, which is what i was meaning.

The flames are meant to be alchemized???? I'VE BEEN SAVING THEM CUZ I THOUGHT THERE WOULD BE SOME KIND OF EVENT SHOP OTL

oh well im sure i will get a good chunk of the alchemy apparel out of them
  • Villager jotunn (#40203) 2 Sep 2020, 12:42 pm
i had no idea embers could be used for alchemy :c would have been nice to know before. thanks for the extension.

Those complaining about not being notified that Shimmering Embers could be alchemized are just being ?? nitpicky ??
Experiment!! Don't wait to be spoon-fed by staff, the first thing I did was see if I could use them outside the event when I finished the tasks; The majority of the community are full-grown adults, please don't blame other people for sitting down, twiddling your thumbs and not taking a second to go "hey, maybe I can use these items for something else!"
The number of Embers users gained in comparison to how many were actually consumed by tasks - It was a pretty telltale sign they had some other use?
  • Villager Astraleaf (#17183) 2 Sep 2020, 1:25 pm
    "You've accumulated 30015 points." Yay!

And I for one am grateful they reminded me to try alchemy with it. I should've thought of it on my own. ;D

    I agree with mochi,
Although I think a lot of transparency would've been really helpful with this event (like the events and their points, etc.) something like what to do with the extra embers - I feel like that is something that should've been explored with by the community. Not everything has to be spoon-fed. You can even see in the forums a lot of people alching their embers.
  • Villager Dilla (#35971) 2 Sep 2020, 2:33 pm
The embers disappearing at the end is the one of the few things I felt they were clear about from the start. I do however 100% understand not believing they really meant it since so many other games use items like that for an event currency - as game players we’ve been conditioned to think of the items as such. I hope everyone gets some good alchemy in before the end now :) the embers have helped fuel my recipe turn in throughout.

why is it that those defending dv feel the need to put down others for being critical. criticism is how many games improve. staff should hear how their users feel about everything, so they can make a more informed decision on how to run their game. its great that people enjoy the event, and thats totally fine if people had no problem with not being told about the embers. but let people give their opinions? thats how growth happens. there are opinions on both sides. everyone should feel free and safe to share them. lets not put down each other for our opinions and criticism. there is no 'blaming' staff. this site is a game, we are giving feedback lol, positive and negative.
