Hey there, looks like you just wandered in. Why not have a look around and stay for a while, maybe even start your own adventure, if you're into that.

Welcome to April!

Our 34th month of limited shops has arrived:
April's theme is the Wasteland Nomad!

The sands of time billow across a wide expanse, rendering all to ruin
and decay with a slow and unwavering certainty. Sunlight splashes

A status post with a link to the stream will be posted when it begins!
We'll be working on wishes from the Wishing Well thread.
Hope to see you there!

EVENT PROGRESS
We're working steadily on both the Winter and the Kelbi event, some more detailed progress was outlined in our previous news post. Our plan is to aim to start the Winter Event some time mid April, so we'll have more news for you on that as soon as we're ready. The Kelbi event will follow relatively soon after the Winter event ends!

Though our event progress is late, we're confident that the stories and lore will not feel out of place, and we're excitedly hoping to finish creating storylines for all 12 of our deities by early 2024. Dappervolk's world and lore is intrinsically tied to the deities and how NPCs view them, which is why so much emphasis is placed on them currently. Creating stories for the Deities with events does a vital job of expanding the world lore.

STAFF HIRING PLANS
We'll be releasing our staff recruitment post some time during the coming event when we have an activity boost!

QOL UPDATES
We're working on some more QoL Updates and bug fixes which we'll be releasing in changelogs through the month.

As always, thank you so much for playing and supporting
Dappervolk. We'll be back with more updates soon!

Please do not continue the orans exchange thing. It is way too expensive for free to play players. It was good last month because YOU made a mistake of making us pull too much just to get a pet. It is NOT a good model to keep doing. Please remove it. We do not want to spend more potatoes. Please let us save some up for things outside of monthly items. Some people might want to save up for rare pets or for art. We do not want to put more and more potatoes into the monthlies. Please stop trying to "fix" the economy. It will fit itself over time. We need better gameplay rather than ways to spend our potatoes at the moment. Focus on that please. Making us spend more and more every month will make players not want to play anymore. I play every day and this is already making me consider quitting. Please be better about it.

orans exchange was only needed for last month bc of the ppl spinning for oran's bonus items and it tanked the market lol its not needed
  • Villager Shadowflight13 (#23772) 1 Apr 2023, 12:01 pm
why is the oran exchange thing back ughhh. I don't want to spend 162,000 extra potatoes for 6 clothing items... this is not a good potato sink. if we want to fix inflation can we make non-limited potato sinks instead so everyone is spending *a little more potatoes* continuously over time, instead of *a lot more potatoes* in one go? consumables like pet accessory makers would be good for this, not limited clothing items. basically something that users buy directly with potatoes instead of spinning for so that the market isn't flooded with excess unwanted random items and the prices of the desired items don't skyrocket. Dx

this set has some cool items but it's overshadowed by disappointment at the oran exchange returning. :( I hope this doesn't become a regular thing.

Honestly, I'm a little upset that Oran's exchange is still here. Thanks for making it less at least (3 items instead of 5), but it dents into my extra copies (which I'm going to have les now) that I usually stocking up for reselling in the future. One more technical rarity tier to keep in mind when reselling later (though I doubt I'll be getting extra recolors for reselling because it's expensive) x-x

I feel my motivation to purchase monthlies got sapped away from this release. For casual players who do not have lots of potatoes sitting in the bank nor passive income from sellable customs, a sharp increase in both cost and number of collectible items is disheartening to the point of halting progress altogether. For casuals, the game currently does not have much reason to do dailies other than to spend on the monthly sets. This update feels like artificial inflation of this set to make "more things to collect" just for the sake of making a full set "harder to obtain".

Collectability is the single-most important feature of games like this. A collectible's value is not just about limited availability- there is value in effort to obtain as well. Legendary pets are a great example of this: they are harder to get but do not have FOMO due to unlimited availability. While their overall end price may not be as high as a limited-time item, they are still a collectible item with a fairly long shelf life in terms of desirability. Plus, there is always a need for them so long as your player base is growing.

TDLR; I don't think the solution to potato sink is not to make things more expensive to obtain, especially not by tampering with the core income of your game (a monthly premium set and a monthly potato set). It's just a side effect of the core issue. Make game fun. Player base will grow if gameplay fun. Players create the economy themselves. They sell art, they create accessories, they sell customs.

    The skins look great!

My gut reaction to the Oran Exchange: 😬
but let's see how this plays out

ohh yes! this set is very cool! excited to see lian again as well, she's my favorite npc <3 looking forward to the new seasonal quests too.

not really a fan of the oran exchange though, I personally already don't spin his shop because it's cheaper to get them off the trades market at or slightly above spin price. otherwise you'd need a good chunk of potatoes to be able to Keep spinning, which, I guess was the point? I guess we'll see how it plays out!

DV, I beg of you, for just once in y'all's career on here... Listen to the player base and what they are literally pleading you not to do.
  • Villager pisces (#4319) 1 Apr 2023, 5:05 pm
i love this set sooo much!!! gorgeous
  • Villager pisces (#4319) 1 Apr 2023, 5:06 pm
I also feel like the perspective is correct this time. Past items have had a weird off-set positioning but this set feels correct. I hope this continues. :)
  • Villager Noxumbra (#17658) 1 Apr 2023, 6:53 pm
Definitely agree that limited items are not the way to go. It's only making players more upset, and with collection building being a core mechanic of the game, it's really ruining the balance of everything, especially for future players. The economy will sort itself out, just try looking at other online game economies. The players eventually balance everything out themselves in time. It's unfortunate that the DV team's efforts sort of failed in solving these economical issues and player satisfaction, but I definitely think the team's focus should go into more important things, like story writing or QoL fixes.

I do think that progress in other areas have certainly been made, and I look forward to seeing what comes next!
I just hope the DV team hears us players, because we really want this game to succeed! Although it may seem negative at first, our suggestions are incredibly important to keeping the lifeblood of DV (player enjoyment and player count) pumping.
