If it's going to negatively impact site performance, which is what this update seems to imply, then yes. Ideally any super important chatter would also somehow be posted to the guild or to the guild's main thread in the forums so people who don't use discord or whatever other service don't miss out. But if using the outside service is that big of a problem for people then maybe that's just not the guild for them, and finding a guild that doesn't rely on it or communicates on both sides is more ideal.

Just because other sites haven't one isn't an argument. Subeta has the shoutbox too, but last I was there it was causing so many problems for the site that they frequently had to take it offline or restrict access during holidays because it was that big of an issue.

It also really depends on what the notification system is like, how the archiving of messages in the live chat system works, ect. I'm just saying if the staff can't make it functional it's not like anything is going to be lost because there are alternatives, and if people wish not to use them then that's not something the staff here can do anything about.
